Senior VICE COMMANDERS MESSAGE (Oct - Dec 2009)
Time certainly does go by quickly. It seems only yesterday, we “hosted” the Vietnam Wall. The event brought many dignitaries and visitors to our Post. The participation and camaraderie of fellow veterans from the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard was impressive. The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Jewish War Veterans, American Legion and AMVETS came together as one, committed to the mantra that never again will one generation of veterans abandon another. Although each veteran’s organization has different criteria for membership, we share a common bond and commitment to God and Country. We all should join at least one veteran’s organization. Numbers are important to politicians. They appropriate funds based upon numbers and when the collective voice of three million American Legionnaires or ten million veterans speaks, I can assure you, they will listen. As the saying goes, “United we stand, divided we fall”.
Speaking of fall….It is here and now is the beginning of a special time of the year. On November 3, we have the opportunity to vote in a free society for the people or party of our choice. On Veteran’s Day, November 11, we get to honor those who fought and died to give each of us our freedom and inalienable right to vote. Thanksgiving Day speaks for itself. I have been to over a dozen different countries and I am thankful to be here in the land that I love. Let us never forget December 7, 1941, Pearl Harbor …“a day that will live in infamy”. Christmas and New Years will be here before we know it and with that in mind, let me be the first to wish each one of you a Merry Christmas and a healthy, prosperous and Happy New year. Let us pray for the safe return of our troops and remember, “What the Caterpillar perceives is the end, to the Butterfly it is only the beginning.”
For God and Country, Ernest G. Brosh, Senior Vice Commander
