I’d like to thank all the Ladies for the opportunity to be Ladies President this year. I have a high standard to follow as Carol leaves office after 5 wonderful and successful years. Best wishes to Carol in all her new endeavors.
Last year at this time we were busy coming down off the The Wall That Heals visit—and thank-ing all the participants and volun-teers. While we didn't have such a huge undertaking this year, when you compile all the events done over the last few months, we have just as many to thank yous and acknowledgments to do! It has been extremely busy— with a well deserved Welcome Home & Thank you Ceremony for Lt Col Al Bancroft, our Annual Yard, Bake, and Hoagie Sale, Flagging of Chapel Ave, Flagging of Locustwood, Memorial Day Services, Welcome Home for the 1357th Civil Affairs, Statewide Services, Honor and Remember Across America and the Wild-wood Convention. So many of our Legion members stepped up to help out with all these events it would be nearly impossible to list them all! With all these events, it brought many of our friends from other organizations out to our Post—including Lt. Col Al Ban-croft and twin brother Art, Cam-den County Dept of Military Af-fairs Office Staff, Congressman John Adler, Senator Jim Beach, Mayor Bernie Platt, Cherry Hill Town Council Members Sara Lippsett and Tim Banner, POW/MIA Awareness Committee Mem-bers Bob Jonas, VVA #899, Yel-low Ribbon Club, Warriors Watch, Nam Knights of America—Delaware Valley Chapter and South Jersey Chapter, Rolling Thunder, Judi Tapper—NJ Gold Star President, along with some local Gold Star Mothers—Maureen Pagano and Melinda Kane, Blue Star Mothers, Centurions, Gold Star Father and Honor and Re-member Founder, George Lutz, Waterford War Memorial members, various fellow American Legion Post members, including local VFWs, AMVets and the Jewish War Veterans—and of course a special thank you is due to Gunny for sup-plying us with so many delicious goodies! Other guests to the Post included Ret. Gunnery Sgt USMC Raymond A. McIntryre, Jr, , Musi-cian David Dowell , Singer Maria DiSciullo , Council 10, Camden County Freeholders, Military Sup-port Group of NJ, and the Marine Corp League 1775. The Cherry Hill Police and Fire Department con-tinue to provide us with outstanding service and support with all our en-deavors—without their help things could really turn into a fiasco—a huge thank you goes out to them.
Several members of our Post have also participated in activities held and sponsored by other veterans organizations - Welcome Homes, the Vietnam Traveling Wall in Flor-ence, Funerals, Fundraisers, and Honor Missions.
With the craziness of the last few months, the next couple of months will pale in comparison—but it is a time to regroup, to take a well needed breather—until September rolls around anyway. That’s not to say some events won’t pop up on short notice, so we urge everyone to visit our website frequently and sign up on the Email List. It’s a great way to keep informed of late breaking news and reminders or upcoming events. As I enter into a new Office, I’d like to appeal to all the Ladies to be-come more active with the Legion. As with most organizations, there seems to be a handful of people that do the majority of the work. Unfortu-nately it often becomes the case that these people reach a ―burn out‖ point. This can be prevented if we have some more people step up and help lighten the load. If more people took on just a small task it would really help.
We will be holding our next meet-ing Saturday, August 7th at 10am at the Legion—which will also include breakfast ! Please come out, learn about what positions we have open, and what upcoming events we’ll be participating in.
For God & Country,
Sue Quinn-Morris
