LADIES MESSAGE (April - June 2010)
This year has had a rough start for everyone. We have been pummeled with more snow and rain than I can ever remember in a winter. We also lost a few of our precious members in the first couple weeks of the year that will be missed around the post.
The Auxiliary was busy yet again for the holiday season. We were able to provide many baskets of food with contributions from our valued post members. We were also able to help some people behind the scenes. These gifts are given anonymously in respect of their privacy. From cards of encouragement, goodies and just plain time given we have been able to provide and assist for our own as well as others in our community which is what the “Auxiliary” is defined as.
We hosted our children’s Christmas party in December with the surplus being donated to the Toys for Tots program which is always beautiful thing. We will also be hosting our annual Easter egg hunt. Through the years attendance has dwindled but we did have enough people express an interest to continue the tradition. In the future we will be asking for people to sign up for the children parties so we are able to plan the activities (big thanks to Shannon and Annette who make this happen) as well as food and prizes for everyone.
We always look forward to our Annual yard, bake and hoagie sale April 24th; we hope everyone can come out to support us again. It’s always a good time with some great bargains; remember “one man’s trash is another man’s treasures”. It also gives a chance to get to know our members and neighbors as we browse the tables for that special something.
Of course the spring means busy days for our post, Memorial Day activities, preparing Locustwood, to hosting the state ceremony, we will be kept active and right behind that is Wildwood. Please try to come down for it you won’t be disappointed. From meeting other post members to the parade it is always fun.
Don’t forget to say thanks to those who make our very existence possible if it weren’t for our veterans we would not be able to be members of this great organization. Also say thank you to any active service person you meet, they are making our world safer. Many people go through the process to become a part of our great country every day. We must be doing something right if so many want to become a US citizen. Remember we have a choice to participate in this country with our actions but it is an honor to be a citizen here and we should always respect that and show our pride.
Say a prayer for all of our service people to come home safely, and also our home post members who are struggling with various issues. They are here for us and we are here for them.
For God and country,
Carol Doyle
PS Don’t forget elections are coming. Run for an office or help campaign for your favorite, but let your voice be heard. Come out and vote it’s your right, your privilege and your duty.
