SAL MESSAGE (April - June 2010)
In January I visited the Veterans
Memorial Home in Vineland with Brian Fitzgerald along with other General
Members, Ladies Auxiliary, and SAL Members from Camden County. The purpose of the visit was to assist with escorting the resident Veterans to the assembly room for a few hours of entertainment from the Barrington Band followed by some pizza and soda. The band’s repertoire included music from the big swing band era, marches, and patriotic music. The hall was quiet when the program started, but it wasn’t long before the residents really started enjoying themselves, clapping and singing along with the band. At the conclusion of the event, the Veteran we assisted back, as well as those we met in the hall thanked us for the afternoon. This overwhelmed me as it is we who should thank our Veterans.
The Vineland Veterans Memorial Home is a modern long-term care nursing home complete with a store, a soda fountain, barber and beauty shops, bowling alley, gym, lounges, chapels and a lot of other things I probably missed. Most important, it was very clear to me the employees at the Vineland home are very special people who really love taking care of our Veterans.
The Wildwood Convention is getting close. I would like to thank Ernie Linden for reserving a block of rooms at the Nantucket for the convention attendees.
The SAL’s meet the third Wednesday of the month. See the web site for details on upcoming post activities.
Please pay your 2010 dues if you haven’t already done so.
For God and Country,
Gary Gottron
SAL Commander
